January 2002 News Upcoming TSF Events:
At race start, the day was perfect, temperatures in the mid-40's, overcast sky. The racecourse was on top of the Mississippi levee and very exposed to the elements. Recently, the shell and dirt surface had been paved, so the course was flat and fast. With the 10k starting together with the 30K, the starting pace was rapid. My goal was to use it as a hard training run. Running out, the wind was at our backs, so it felt OK. At the turn around, there was an abrupt transition to head winds. A storm was rolling in from the Gulf; by mile 15 the winds were very strong and the temperature had dropped. Fortunately there were a sufficient number of people on the course so that you could run with someone or pass someone (was a definite boost in the final couple of miles). By the time I finished, I was cold. I had forgotten how much it hurts to run hard when you are not well trained! It was a good race for a fast paced run. Finish: 2:24, 3rd overall female, 1st Master.
