George Broome
George Broome
is a consulting geological engineer recently retired from full time employment
after spending 42 years in the oil and gas industry. He has a passion
for cycling and the outdoors, and a desire to push his limits whenever possible.
George grew up in Santa Fe and Pecos, New Mexico riding bikes, horses
and riding in rodeos. George returned to cycling in 1991 when his son,
Brent, began racing mountain bikes and he decided to join in rather than
stand around and watch. Since then George has been racing and doing adventure
cycling trips with his wife, Lisa, in many parts of the world including Bhutan,
Tibet, Mongolia, New Zealand, Guatemala, Mexico and Europe.
His love for cycling has led to participation in many endurance
events which include:
- Mt.Taylor Winter Quadrathalon (X-country ski, showshoe)
- 2001, 2003 (1st place both years in Mixed pairs 50 plus)
- TransAlp Challenge Mountain Bike Race
- 2004 (101st in Master Mens)
- Planet Ultra Death Valley Double Century; 2004
- Santa Fe Century; 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004
- White Sands Century; 2003, 2004
- Leadville Silver Rush 50 Mile Mtn Bike Race
- 2003 (4th place Men 60-69)
- Leadville Trail 100 Mtn Bike Race
